Penny was born into a large litter in 1982. As a pup, she began showing early signs of creativity and invention. Pulling away from the pack, Penny moved into a loft in New York City, embarking on a career as an artist and model. She began to feel lonely in the big city, so Penny decided to adopt Susan Shaw through a want ad she saw in the paper. Though initially she had misgivings owing to the fact that she was essentially a career dog, Penny discovered that adoption was the best decision she ever made.
Having an inate star power garnered Penny the attention of the glitterati and she soon got her first break starring with Winona Ryder in the Mojo Nixon video, “Debbie Gibson is Pregnant with My Two-Headed Love Child.” Bloomingdale’s and Member’s Only catalog covers were to follow, along with numerous personal appearances in Japanese rock videos. Though she won international acclaim in magazines such as Rolling Stone, she had tired of the vacuous and unfulfilling world of modeling.
A natural intelligence coupled with technical know-how allowed Penny to transition into a very successful career in the emerging field of multi-media and computer graphic design. As a founding member of Hyperspace Cowgirls, Penny began a second career as an entrepreneur. Alongside Benji and the Taco Bell dog, Penny symbolizes the true Renaissance pooch of our times and her spirit continues to inspire those who follow in her pawsteps.
